The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has appeared at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for his arraignment on charges of alleged abuse of office.
Emefiele, alongside Henry Isioma Omoile, is facing a fresh 26-count charge before Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja High Court. The charges include allegations of accepting gratification, receiving gifts through agents, corruption, and fraudulent property acquisition.
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), Emefiele is also accused of conferring corrupt advantages on his associates, contravening the Corrupt Practices Act of 2000. These charges were filed on April 3.
It’s worth noting that Emefiele is already undergoing prosecution by the EFCC at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja for alleged fraudulent financial transactions during his tenure as CBN governor. The legal proceedings for the arraignment of Emefiele and Omoile are currently ongoing.
