Renowned Nigerian chess master, coach, and founder of Chess in Slums Africa, Tunde Onakoya, has embarked on a remarkable journey to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.
His mission began on April 17, 2024, at 10 am in Times Square, New York, and is slated to conclude at 8 pm on April 19th.
With 13 hours already elapsed and 45 hours remaining, Onakoya has faced and triumphed over 10 opponents, including esteemed competitors such as National Chess Master Shawn Martinez from New York.
Notably, each victory adds to his momentum as he strives to achieve an unprecedented feat.
Onakoya’s initiative extends beyond personal achievement, with a focus on uplifting children in underserved communities across Lagos state, including Majidun, Makoko, and Oshodi. Through Chess in Slums Africa, he has orchestrated impactful interventions aimed at empowering youth through the game of chess.
