Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt has officially dropped her father’s last name, following a Los Angeles court ruling approving her request to legally change her name.
The 21-year-old is now officially known as Zahara Marley Jolie, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE and other outlets.
A Los Angeles judge approved the name change on September 28, 2026, after no objections were filed against the petition. The court decree formally changed her name from “Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt” to “Zahara Marley Jolie.”

Zahara had already been publicly using the name Zahara Marley Jolie before the court approval.
She reportedly began using the name while attending Spelman College and was also identified by the name during her graduation from the Atlanta-based historically Black college in May.
Her legal petition was filed earlier this year, with a hearing scheduled for September 28. Before the hearing, a legal notice concerning the requested name change was published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, as required under California’s name-change process.
With the judge’s approval, the process is now complete.
She Is the Third Child to Legally Drop ‘Pitt’
Zahara is the third of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s children to legally remove “Pitt” from her surname.
Her sister Shiloh Jolie was the first to complete the process. She filed to change her name after turning 18 in 2024, and her request was subsequently approved.
Their brother Maddox Chivan Jolie also recently received court approval to remove “Pitt” from his legal name. His change became official earlier in September 2026.
Their younger sister Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt has also taken steps toward removing the surname.
Vivienne filed a petition to become Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, with a court hearing scheduled for November 2.
Zahara Has Continued Her Own Path
Zahara has increasingly established an identity separate from her famous parents.
She graduated from Spelman College in May and has been involved in student and community activities during her time at the institution.
Her public use of the Jolie surname before the court ruling meant that the latest legal decision largely formalised a name she had already been using publicly.
The court documents do not state a reason for Zahara’s decision to remove “Pitt” from her legal name. Reports about the broader family situation have included claims from unnamed sources, but those claims should not be treated as Zahara’s stated explanation for the name change.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Share Six Children
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have six children together: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox.
She was born in Ethiopia and was adopted by Angelina Jolie in 2005. Pitt later became her adoptive father, and her surname was changed to Jolie-Pitt in 2006.
The former couple met while working on Mr. & Mrs. Smith and began their relationship in 2005.
They married in August 2014 but separated in 2016. Their lengthy divorce proceedings were finally concluded in December 2024.
More Children Have Distanced Themselves From the Pitt Name
Her legal decision comes amid a series of name changes involving several of the former couple’s children.
Shiloh previously dropped “Pitt,” while Maddox’s name change was approved earlier this month.
Vivienne is currently pursuing the same legal change.
The developments have attracted considerable public attention because of the high-profile nature of Jolie and Pitt’s former relationship and the years-long legal proceedings surrounding their separation.
However, the legal documents approving the name changes do not provide an explanation for each child’s personal decision.
Zahara Marley Jolie Begins a New Chapter
With the September 28 court ruling, Zahara Marley Jolie is now her official legal name.
The decision formalises the identity she had already begun using publicly and marks another significant development involving the children of two of Hollywood’s most recognisable stars.
While her parents remain internationally famous actors, she has increasingly built her own identity through education, advocacy and her personal interests.
For now, the court record is clear: the surname Pitt has officially been removed from Zahara’s legal name.
