Following Peter Obi’s decision to run for the office of the president of Nigeria, there have been multiple controversies in reaction to this decision.
Among these was the comment made by a respected Catholic priest Rev. Fr Mbaka, who mentioned that the presidential aspirant was very stingy and could not rule Nigeria.
This statement has ruffled still waters as the public considered it improper owing to the fact that they considered Rev. Fr Mbaka a political priest who was interested in personal gains.
Public perception also had it that Rev. Fr Mbaka has been against Peter since he ran for office as Atiku’s running mate under the Peoples Democratic Party. Back then Fr. Mbaka had requested that Peter Obi support the adoration ministry with cash rather Peter Obi insisted on being assigned to a project.
It is believed that this incident instigated Rev Fr. Mbaka’s recent comment about Peter Obi being a stingy man and unfit to rule Nigeria.
It is also known that Peter Obi is a devout Catholic Christian and considers Rev Fr. Mbaka to be his priest.
His loyalty to the catholic and Christian faith was demonstrated in his address during the Father’s Day celebration at St Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church Anthony Lagos.
Opportune to address the congregation, Peter Obi admonished Fathers to be tolerant. He further advised fathers never to hold what a priest says against them. In his words, he said,
“Whatever a priest says don’t hold it against him”–Peter Obi
Peter Obi also addressed the issues from his marriage of 30 years and confirmed Bianca’s comment about his ‘stinginess’.
