Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has finally broken his silence on the long-standing controversy surrounding the breakup of the legendary music duo P-Square, saying he is ready to tell his side of the story after years of public speculation.

The singer made the revelation in a video shared on his official Instagram page, insisting that the truth has remained hidden for too long while false narratives continued to dominate public conversations.

Peter accompanied the emotional video with a strong message directed at fans and critics alike.

“I’ve watched lies travel farther than the truth. Today, I’m finally giving the truth a voice.”

His statement has since generated widespread reactions across social media, with many fans expressing hope that the full story behind one of Nigeria’s biggest music breakups will finally emerge.

Peter says he is ready to speak the truth

In the video, Peter explained that many Nigerians have continued discussing the collapse of P-Square without actually knowing what happened behind the scenes.

According to him, he has remained silent for years despite numerous allegations and public assumptions about the situation.

He revealed that he previously apologised publicly on the same platform where one of the controversies originally started but believes it is now time to give a complete account of events.

Peter challenged anyone—including his twin brother—to contradict his claims with evidence.

“I am going to speak my truth today. I challenge anybody, including my twin brother. Anybody can provide a video.”

He further stated:

“I hear a lot of people saying, ‘What exactly happened to this guy?’ because most of you don’t even know what happened to us. But today, I am going to say it.”

Years of disagreements

The P-Square breakup remains one of the most talked-about splits in African music history.

For years, rumours surrounded disagreements involving money, management, creative direction and family relationships.

Peter noted that much of what the public believes about the conflict does not reflect the complete picture.

Although he did not immediately disclose every detail in the video, he suggested that many unanswered questions would finally be addressed.

Jude Okoye’s role

Peter also referenced the role of their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who managed P-Square during the peak of their career.

Jude has frequently been mentioned whenever discussions arise about the brothers’ disagreements.

Industry observers have long speculated that issues relating to management, finances and business decisions contributed significantly to the eventual collapse of the group.

Neither Jude nor Paul has publicly responded to Peter’s latest remarks at the time of filing this report.

Rise of P-Square

Peter and Paul Okoye formed P-Square in the early 2000s and quickly became one of Africa’s biggest music exports.

Known for their energetic performances, synchronized choreography and chart-topping songs, the duo dominated the Nigerian music industry for over a decade.

Some of their biggest hits include Bizzy Body, Personally, Chop My Money, No One Like You, Do Me and Alingo.

Their success extended beyond Nigeria, earning them numerous international awards, endorsement deals and sold-out concerts across Africa, Europe and North America.

At the height of their fame, P-Square was regarded as one of the most influential music groups on the continent.

The split

In 2017, after years of internal disagreements, the brothers officially announced their separation.

The breakup shocked millions of fans who had followed their journey from the beginning.

Following the split, Peter launched his solo career under the stage name Mr P, while Paul adopted the name Rudeboy.

Both artistes have since released multiple successful singles and albums independently.

Although the twins reunited briefly in 2021 and released new music together, their relationship later deteriorated again, leading to renewed tensions that have continued to play out publicly.

Fans react

Peter’s latest revelation has once again revived conversations about what truly happened between the famous brothers.

Many fans have welcomed his decision to speak openly, saying they hope it brings closure to years of speculation.

Others believe both brothers should eventually tell their individual stories so fans can better understand what led to the collapse of one of Africa’s most successful music partnerships.

With Peter promising to reveal the full truth, many followers are now eagerly awaiting further details that could finally shed light on one of Nigerian entertainment’s most enduring mysteries.
