Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has called on members of his congregation to actively participate in Nigeria’s democratic process by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The renowned cleric made the appeal while delivering a sermon titled “Breaking the Curses of Life” during a church service at Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State, on Sunday.
According to Oyedepo, Christians have both a civic and constitutional responsibility to participate in choosing the nation’s leaders rather than remaining passive observers during elections.

Oyedepo urges members to register and vote
Speaking to thousands of worshippers, Bishop Oyedepo emphasized that members of the church should prepare early for the next general elections by ensuring they possess valid Permanent Voter Cards.
He noted that voting is one of the most important responsibilities of every citizen and encouraged Christians not to distance themselves from the country’s political process.
According to him, believers should understand that they have every right to contribute to determining who governs Nigeria.
“We have a right to determine who governs us”
During his sermon, the founder of Living Faith Church reminded members that they are not strangers in their country but full citizens with constitutional rights.
He said:
“We have a civic responsibility as responsible citizens of our various nations.
“We are not passers-by in our nations. We are bona fide citizens of the nation and we have a right to participate in who governs us.
“We have a right to determine who rules us.”
His comments drew loud applause from members of the congregation.
Church has a role to play
Oyedepo also highlighted the numerical strength of the Living Faith Church, saying the large population of worshippers gives the church a significant voice in the democratic process.
He encouraged members to recognize the influence they can collectively have through lawful participation in elections.
“And this church, with the millions that we have, has a say in it. So be part of it,” he added.
The bishop’s remarks focused on encouraging civic participation rather than political affiliation, urging members to exercise their constitutional rights responsibly.
Call comes ahead of 2027 general elections
Although the 2027 general elections are still some time away, political conversations have gradually begun across Nigeria, with religious leaders, civil society groups and political stakeholders encouraging citizens to prepare early for the electoral process.
Obtaining a Permanent Voter Card is one of the key requirements for eligible Nigerians to participate in elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Over the years, several religious and community leaders have encouraged Nigerians to register, collect their PVCs and vote peacefully during elections.
Civic participation remains important
Oyedepo’s message reinforces the importance of civic engagement and active participation in democratic governance.
His appeal encourages church members to take advantage of their constitutional rights by registering to vote and making informed decisions during elections.
The cleric maintained that every eligible citizen has a responsibility to contribute positively to the country’s leadership through lawful participation in the electoral process.
As preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections, his message is expected to further encourage many eligible voters to obtain their PVCs and participate in shaping Nigeria’s democratic future.
