The owners of the Abuja Chinese Supermarket, which has been at the center of allegations of discriminatory practices, have responded to the summons issued by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
The agency made this announcement via its verified X handle on Wednesday, April 24, disclosing that the proprietors of Royal Choice were invited to address concerns regarding the reported discriminatory policies.
Royal Choice, situated at the China General Chamber of Commerce, specializes in selling Chinese foods and beverages. The controversy surrounding the supermarket erupted after a viral video surfaced on April 21, in which a resident recounted being denied entry to the supermarket based on nationality.
This sparked widespread outrage, with many expressing discontent over the alleged policy restricting patronage to Chinese customers only.
In response to public outcry, FCCPC operatives conducted an inspection of the facility over the weekend to ascertain the veracity of the allegations.
