Hollywood actor and musician Jared Leto is facing a fresh wave of sexual misconduct allegations after four women made claims about their interactions with the Oscar-winning actor in a new BBC documentary.

The allegations, which span several years, include claims involving underage girls and inappropriate conduct. At the time of publication, none of the new allegations have been proven in court, and Jared Leto has not publicly responded to the latest claims.

According to the BBC, the investigation includes interviews with four women, as well as former associates connected to Leto’s rock band, Thirty Seconds to Mars.

The BBC’s latest reports and investigations are available on its official website at https://www.bbc.com.

Claims from four women

One of the women interviewed by the BBC alleged she had a sexual encounter with Leto in California in 2006 when she was 17 years old, below the state’s legal age of consent at the time.

According to the documentary, she claimed she informed Leto that her father worked in law enforcement and that she was aware California’s age of consent was 18.

She alleged that Leto “just kind of shrugged it off like it wasn’t a huge concern for him.”

Another woman claimed that after telling Leto she was 17, he allegedly replied:

“Age is just a number, and anyway, we’re in Europe.”

The BBC reported these as allegations made during its investigation.

Alleged phone calls and NDA

A fourth woman, identified only as Etta, alleged she first met Jared Leto through a Los Angeles modelling agency in 2014 when she was 16 years old.

According to her account, she later began receiving sexually explicit telephone calls from the actor.

Etta further alleged that she was subsequently asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

She said she declined to sign the agreement but later shared a copy of the document with BBC investigators.

Former band associates speak

The documentary also includes interviews with two men who previously worked alongside Leto’s band, Thirty Seconds to Mars.

According to their accounts, some members of the band’s staff became uncomfortable with the singer’s interactions with teenage girls.

One former associate alleged that young girls were sometimes invited backstage after performances or to locations where the band was recording music.

“I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big,” one former associate reportedly told the BBC.

These claims remain allegations and have not been tested in court.

BBC says evidence was reviewed

The BBC stated that it reviewed supporting material while investigating the claims.

According to the broadcaster, parts of the women’s accounts were corroborated through:

  • Contemporary text messages
  • Photographs
  • Interviews with friends
  • Interviews with relatives

However, the broadcaster noted that its investigation does not constitute a legal determination of guilt.

Previous allegations

The latest allegations are not the first made against the actor.

Last year, publication Air Mail reported nine separate sexual misconduct accusations involving Jared Leto.

At the time, representatives for the actor strongly denied those allegations.

In a statement quoted by multiple media outlets, his representatives described the previous accusations as “demonstrably false.”

No public response to latest claims

Several international media organisations reported that they contacted representatives for Jared Leto seeking comment on the latest allegations.

As of publication, no public response had been issued regarding the BBC documentary.

If a response is provided later, the story may be updated to reflect his position.

Legal position

The allegations contained in the BBC documentary are serious, but it is important to note that they remain allegations.

No criminal conviction has resulted from the claims discussed in the documentary, and there has been no public announcement of charges relating to the newly reported allegations.

Under legal principles followed in many jurisdictions, individuals accused of wrongdoing are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The BBC investigation has nevertheless generated significant public attention and renewed discussion online regarding accountability within the entertainment industry.

As reactions continue across social media and the wider entertainment world, many observers will be watching to see whether further statements, legal action or official investigations emerge following the documentary’s release.
