Fulham’s Alex Iwobi has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing John Mikel Obi’s record for the most minutes played by a Nigerian in the English Premier League.
In Fulham’s recent 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at home, Iwobi showcased his endurance by playing the full 90 minutes, elevating his Premier League minutes tally to an impressive 16,289. This remarkable achievement eclipses the previous record of 16,218 minutes held by former Chelsea stalwart John Mikel Obi.
Mikel Obi, the previous record holder, enjoyed a distinguished career in the Premier League, spending 11 seasons with Chelsea and earning numerous accolades, including two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and a Champions League crown. Obi amassed a total of 249 Premier League appearances, contributing 1 goal and 10 assists to his team’s success.
Iwobi‘s journey in the Premier League commenced with Arsenal, where he made his debut on October 31, 2015. Following a successful stint with the Gunners, the versatile midfielder joined Everton in 2019 before transitioning to Fulham last summer.
Throughout his career, Iwobi has consistently featured for his respective clubs, accumulating valuable playing time on the field. In the current season alone, the 27-year-old has made 24 league appearances for Fulham, finding the net five times. His overall appearances in the league amount to 247, with a total of 22 goals.
