The Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association issued a call on Wednesday, urging both Federal and State Governments to establish schools dedicated to teaching traditional religious knowledge.
Fayemi Fakayode, Secretary of the Oyo State branch, emphasized the importance of imparting Yoruba culture and tradition to the younger generation.
Fakayode advocated for the inclusion of traditional religious knowledge as a subject in primary and secondary school curricula, similar to Islamic Religious Knowledge and Christian Religious Knowledge.
He highlighted the necessity of proper education to dispel misconceptions about Yoruba history and traditions, which have led to misunderstandings about traditional religion.
During the installation ceremony of two Brazilians Mayegun and Yeye Mayegun of Ìjọ Ìmọ́lẹ̀ Olódùmarè Àgbáyé, Fakayode emphasized the urgency for government support in incorporating Traditional Religious Knowledge (TRK) into school curricula.
He urged traditionalists to take the initiative in establishing TRK programs in schools while calling on governments to provide the necessary support for its inclusion in syllabi and curricula.
Fakayode emphasized that TRK education would empower younger generations with culturally rooted knowledge, fostering patriotism and resilience against negative influences.
He stressed the importance of preventing foreign influence in teaching Yoruba religion, culture, and history, ensuring that future generations are not misled by outsiders portraying traditional religion in a negative light.
