Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has strongly denied allegations that he owes £4,106 in expenses connected to a proposed United Kingdom tour, describing the claims as false, defamatory and a breach of their contractual agreement.

The award-winning singer has now threatened legal action against promoter Otis Ayodele Kubeyinje, popularly known as DJ Timmy, and Revolve Entertainment, following a public dispute over the cancelled tour.

Dakolo’s response was contained in a legal letter dated July 18, signed by Tope Salami of Whitestone Solicitors and Consultancy, and later shared on the singer’s official Instagram page.

The dispute has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with fans of both parties debating who bears responsibility for the failed UK concert tour.

1. Timi Dakolo completely denies the £4,106 debt

The legal letter firmly rejected claims that the singer owes £4,106 allegedly spent on preparations for the planned UK tour.

According to the statement, the disputed expenses covered several items, including:

  • Venue arrangements
  • Graphic design
  • Domain registration
  • Website fees
  • Video editing
  • Visa deposits
  • Consultation fees

However, Dakolo’s legal team maintained that their client bears no responsibility for those expenses.

The letter stated:

“Our Client unequivocally denies these allegations.”

His lawyers argued that the expenses were voluntarily incurred by the promoter and were never recoverable from the artiste under the terms of their agreement.

2. Lawyers say the contract placed the costs on the promoter

Dakolo’s legal representatives explained that both parties had entered into a formal written performance agreement before plans for the UK tour began.

According to the agreement, Revolve Entertainment was responsible for organising virtually every aspect of the production.

The promoters were expected to provide:

  • Performance venues
  • Sound equipment
  • Lighting
  • Technical production
  • Local logistics
  • Flights
  • Accommodation
  • Transportation
  • Visa-related expenses

The lawyers stressed that these obligations rested entirely with the promoter.

They also revealed that the agreement specifically stated that Dakolo would not receive any advance payment before the tour.

Furthermore, they argued that advertising or promotional expenses could only become recoverable if approved beforehand by Dakolo and his management team.

3. The UK tour allegedly failed because of production shortcomings

The legal response also addressed why the proposed UK tour never took place.

According to Dakolo’s lawyers, the cancellation was caused by Revolve Entertainment’s inability to meet the required production standards.

The letter stated that the technical arrangements proposed for the concerts fell far below the professional standard expected for a live performance involving Dakolo and his full band.

It added that because those requirements were never satisfied, the tour could not proceed as planned.

The lawyers therefore maintained that Dakolo should not be held responsible for financial losses arising from obligations that belonged to the promoter.

4. DJ Timmy allegedly made defamatory statements

The legal dispute intensified after DJ Timmy publicly accused Dakolo of failing to settle the alleged debt.

He also threatened to expose details about the singer’s personal life, including allegations regarding his private relationships.

Reacting to those comments, Dakolo’s legal team accused DJ Timmy and Revolve Entertainment of repeatedly defaming the singer across social media.

According to the letter, the promoter described Dakolo using words such as:

  • “Thief”
  • “Bloody arrogant”
  • “Evil”

The lawyers argued that these statements were defamatory and amounted to cyberbullying, cyberstalking and harassment.

They further alleged that repeated public attacks were intended to intimidate and blackmail the singer.

5. Timi Dakolo is preparing legal action in two countries

Dakolo’s solicitors warned that the singer is prepared to pursue every available legal remedy.

According to the letter, legal proceedings are being considered in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The lawyers demanded that DJ Timmy and Revolve Entertainment:

  • Immediately stop making defamatory statements.
  • Remove all disputed online publications.
  • Publish a public apology.
  • Issue a formal retraction within seven days.
  • Refrain from further harassment, intimidation or blackmail.

They warned that failure to comply would result in legal action without any additional notice.

The controversy continues

The dispute has attracted significant attention across the Nigerian entertainment industry, particularly because both parties have taken their disagreement into the public domain.

While DJ Timmy insists Dakolo owes money connected to preparations for the cancelled tour, the singer maintains that every expense being claimed falls under the contractual responsibilities of the promoter.

Neither party has indicated any willingness to settle the matter privately.

Fans react online

Social media has been flooded with mixed reactions since both sides made their positions public.

Some supporters believe artistes should honour financial commitments connected to concert planning, while others argue that promoters must fulfil contractual obligations before demanding reimbursement.

Legal experts have also noted that the outcome of the dispute will likely depend on the exact wording of the written performance agreement and whether either party breached its contractual obligations.

Awaiting the next legal step

With Dakolo now threatening lawsuits in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom, the disagreement appears set to move beyond social media into the courtroom.

Unless both parties reach an out-of-court settlement, the dispute over the cancelled UK tour, alleged unpaid expenses and accusations of defamation could become one of the entertainment industry’s most closely watched legal battles in the coming months.
