The Federal Government has officially declared Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9th and 10th, 2024, as public holidays to commemorate the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Sunday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of the fasting period during the holy month of Ramadan.
He urged Muslims to embrace and practice the values of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighborliness, and compassion, as demonstrated by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
The Eid-El-Fitr celebration, marking the end of Ramadan fasting, is expected to take place either on Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on the sighting of the new moon heralding the Islamic month of Shawwal.
In a separate event, President Bola Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Sunday in preparation for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration. He was warmly received at the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other top government officials.
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, had previously announced that Tinubu would observe the end of Ramadan with prayers for Nigeria and his family in Lagos.
While the specific return date was not disclosed, Ngelale mentioned that the Nigerian leader would continue with official duties during and after the Eid-el-Fitr holidays.
In a similar vein, Vice-President Kashim Shettima arrived in Maiduguri on Sunday ahead of the Eid-El-Fitr celebration. He was received at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport by the Borno Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, members of the State Executive Council, and party chieftains.
Security measures have been intensified in Maiduguri and surrounding areas in anticipation of the festive period, as is customary during such occasions.
