Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has called for a thorough investigation into the killing of soldiers in Abia State during the recent sit-at-home order.

Emphasizing that Nigerians must not remain indifferent while the nation is torn apart by violence, Obi condemned the attack as appalling and a heinous act.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had declared a sit-at-home order on Thursday to commemorate those killed during the Biafra civil war.

During this period, unknown gunmen killed five soldiers at the Obikabia Junction checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, Aba, Abia State.

Reacting to the incident, Obi expressed his grief and condemnation on X, stating:

“I am appalled and saddened by the attack on our brave soldiers in Abia State yesterday, resulting in the death of five soldiers.

This dastardly act remains condemnable as it is a stark reminder of the escalating insecurity and violence that has continued to plague our nation under our collective watch.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and we owe it to them to demand accountability and justice.

I condemn this atrocity in strong terms and demand an immediate and thorough investigation into this crime in order to identify and punish the culprits. We must not stand idly by while our nation is torn apart by violence and fear.”

The former governor of Anambra State pledged to continue advocating for a better future, stressing the importance of accountability and justice in addressing the nation’s security challenges.
