Few hours ago, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu announced that the presidential election earlier scheduled for today, 16th of February 2019 was postponed to 23rd of February 2019.
According to him ‘following careful reveiw of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan and the determination to conduct free,fair and credible election,the commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the elections as scheduled is no longer feasible’
He then announced that the presidential and national assembly elections has been moved to February 23rd, 2019 as well as the Governorship and state assembly elections which has equally been moved by one week to hold on the 9th of March, 2019
Nigerians have reacted to this statement as a lot of them have travelled to various destinations where they registered to be able to exercise their civil rights by voting for their preferred candidates.
A head teacher of a private school in Lagos Mrs William Eke has lamented on how the school calendar was rearranged to suit the former Presidential and Gubernatorial election dates.
Nigerians equally lamented on social media on the tardiness of the preparation of the Elections and the postponement.
However, the oppostion party PDP chairman Uche Secondus has rejected the postponment and says it’s a ploy by President Buhari to hold on to power.
