In an extraordinary feat of skill and endurance, Tunde Onakoya, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s chess community, shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous chess marathon.
Taking to his official social media platform, Tunde proudly announced his achievement, highlighting his goal to surpass 60 hours of gameplay while underscoring the charitable aspect of his endeavor: raising funds for the education of underprivileged African children worldwide.
Surpassing the previous record set by Norwegian players, Tunde embarked on this marathon in partnership with US counterpart Shawn Martinez, both esteemed national masters.
Their shared mission extended beyond mere record-breaking, aiming to shine a spotlight on the critical need for educational opportunities for marginalized children across the African continent.
After 23 hours of relentless play, Martinez joined Tunde, and together, they pressed on, receiving support from influential figures such as Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and acclaimed musicians Davido and Adekunle Gold.
