The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has introduced QR codes to help eligible voters locate their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centres ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The initiative is designed to make it easier for registered voters to identify designated collection points and obtain their cards before election day.

According to the commission, voters can access the QR codes through its official website and social media platforms, where they can scan the codes to identify the appropriate collection locations.

The development forms part of INEC’s efforts to improve access to voter information and encourage eligible residents to complete the PVC collection process ahead of the next general elections.

INEC has advised eligible voters to use the information provided through its official communication channels to identify their designated PVC collection centres.

Voters should follow these steps:

  1. Visit INEC’s official website at https://www.inecnigeria.org/ or check its verified social media platforms.
  2. Look for the official announcement containing the PVC collection QR code.
  3. Scan the QR code using a compatible smartphone camera or QR code scanner.
  4. Follow the instructions provided to identify the designated collection centre.
  5. Confirm the collection arrangements and any required documents through official INEC channels before visiting.

Voters should ensure that they use official links and verified announcements to avoid misinformation or fraudulent websites.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Urges Voters to Collect PVCs

Speaking at a press conference at INEC’s Lagos headquarters, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Ayobami Salami, urged eligible voters to collect their PVCs and verify their registration details.

Salami also encouraged residents to obtain election-related information from official sources and stressed the importance of participating in the electoral process.

The commission’s message highlights the need for voters to take the necessary steps before election day rather than wait until the final stages of preparations.

PVC collection is an important part of the process for eligible registered voters who need their cards for identification and accreditation under the applicable election procedures.

INEC Steps Up Preparations for the 2027 Elections

Beyond the introduction of QR codes, INEC said it was continuing preparations in several operational areas ahead of the 2027 general elections.

These include the procurement and testing of voter accreditation devices, improvements to result transmission systems, logistics planning, and the recruitment and training of election personnel.

The measures are intended to support the administration of elections across the country.

Technology remains an important part of the commission’s efforts to improve election management, although the effectiveness of individual initiatives will depend on implementation, public awareness and access to reliable information.

Why PVC Collection Matters

INEC’s QR-code initiative aims to reduce the difficulty voters may experience when trying to identify where to collect their cards.

Making collection-centre information more accessible could help eligible residents plan their visits and resolve questions about their registration details before election day.

However, voters should not assume that scanning a QR code automatically completes their registration or replaces the requirement to collect their PVC where applicable.

Residents are encouraged to verify their details and follow the latest instructions issued by the commission.

As preparations continue towards the 2027 general elections, INEC is urging eligible voters in Lagos to take advantage of the information available through its official channels and ensure they are prepared well ahead of election day.
