A tragic incident occurred in the Gbagada area of Lagos when an unidentified woman was fatally stabbed by her house help in her apartment on 29, Kiniun-Ifa Street, Sawmill.
The exact timing of the alleged murder by the fleeing house help, known only as Peter, remains unclear. However, the lifeless body of the woman was discovered on March 9, 2024, by her son, who had come for a visit.
Upon visiting the building, it was observed to be locked, with the deceased being the sole occupant. There are three shops located in front of the building.
A resident in the area, speaking anonymously, recounted how the woman’s son found her lifeless body on the staircase, covered in blood, upon his arrival. Additionally, a long piece of wood suspected to be the murder weapon was discovered at the scene. The condition of the body indicated that the woman may have been killed days before.
It was gathered that the fleeing house help had resumed work just a week before the tragic incident. Further investigation revealed that a relative of the agent who introduced the house help had been arrested, as the agent could not be located.
Efforts to interview the deceased’s son were unsuccessful, as he was too distraught to speak. Policemen from the Ifako Police Division visited the scene and removed the body.
At the Ifako Police Division, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO Owolabi Sefunmi, directed inquiries to the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesman. The Lagos State Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the house help had been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCIID, Panti, for further investigation.
