The governors of Bayelsa and Rivers states, Senator Douye Diri and Siminalayi Fubara, have arrived at the venue for the funeral service of the former Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Plc, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, his wife Doreen, and son Chizzy.
Accompanying them is the former Nigerian Ambassador to Scandinavian countries, Dr. Godknows Igali, who arrived with Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.
Earlier reports highlighted the presence of dignitaries, guests, and numerous mourners streaming into the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State for the funeral service scheduled for today, Saturday, March 9, 2024.
Ensuring security at the venue, the state commissioner of police, Olatunji Disu, led a contingent of security personnel. Members of the clergy, traditional rulers from Omoeke (Wigwe’s hometown), and monarchs from Isiokpo are already seated.
Wigwe, his wife, and son tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in California, near the Nevada border, in the United States of America, on Friday, February 9, 2024. Access Holdings Plc officially confirmed their passing in a statement released on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
The statement expressed profound sadness at the loss of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, describing him as a driving force and a larger-than-life personality who played a pivotal role in transforming the Access franchise since joining the Bank in 2002. The entire Access Family extended their deep sympathies to his family and loved ones.
