A Ghanaian man identified as Aikins is demanding GH¢450,000 in compensation from his wife, Vivian, after a DNA test reportedly revealed that their two-year-old son is not his biological child.

Aikins, a resident of Abrepo Junction in the Ashanti Region, made the demand while appearing on Oyarepa Afutuo, a television programme, on October 21, 2026.

According to his account, he spent a substantial amount of money on his wedding and contributed financially to raising the child because he believed he was the boy’s biological father.

The case has drawn attention to the emotional and financial consequences that can follow disputed paternity, as well as the difficult questions families face when DNA test results challenge long-held assumptions.

The reports describe the man’s allegations; the wife’s independent response and any legal decision on his demand were not established in the available accounts.

Here are five key facts about the dispute.

1. Aikins Says a DNA Test Excluded Him as the Child’s Biological Father

Aikins said he requested a DNA test after becoming increasingly suspicious about his wife’s alleged communication with a former boyfriend and amid continuing disagreements in their marriage.

According to his account on Oyarepa Afutuo, the test was conducted with police involvement and reportedly showed that he was not the boy’s biological father.

The result, as described by Aikins, came after he had already invested emotionally and financially in the marriage and the child’s upbringing.

However, the details of the laboratory report have not been independently reviewed for this article. The finding should therefore be understood as a result reported by the man and the media accounts covering his appearance.

DNA testing is used to assess biological relationships. Ghanaian diagnostic providers, including Blueprint DNA, explain how paternity tests compare genetic samples to determine whether an alleged father is biologically related to a child.

2. He Claims He Spent GH¢450,000 on the Wedding and Child

Aikins said he spent approximately GH¢450,000 on his wedding and on financial responsibilities connected to raising the child.

He argued that he made those expenditures believing he was supporting his own biological son.

“I came here because I need my compensation of GH¢450,000 from her because I have really spent on her and the child and the wedding as well,” he said during the programme.

He is now seeking to recover that amount from Vivian.

The demand, however, is his stated position rather than a confirmed court award. The available reports do not establish whether Vivian has agreed to pay, whether negotiations have taken place or whether a court has ruled on the matter.

3. He Says the Marriage Was Troubled by Allegations of Infidelity

Aikins alleged that his marriage had been marked by repeated misunderstandings and concerns about his wife’s relationship with her former boyfriend.

He claimed that the continued communication raised suspicions and contributed to tensions between them.

He also alleged that the situation became more difficult after his mother-in-law advised Vivian to avoid another pregnancy with him.

According to Aikins, the advice affected their intimate relationship and led to further disagreements.

These claims form part of his account of the marriage. The available reports do not provide a detailed independent response from Vivian, so the allegations should not be treated as established facts about her conduct or intentions.

4. The Dispute Was Reportedly Taken to Ghana Police’s DOVVSU

Aikins said the disagreement escalated after Vivian sought help from her uncle following a marital dispute.

He alleged that his wife and her family accused him of physically assaulting her and failing to provide adequate financial support for their child.

According to his account, the matter was reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

The available reports do not establish the outcome of that complaint or whether any formal charges were filed.

The allegations of domestic violence are serious and should be treated separately from the paternity dispute. A DNA result does not, by itself, prove or disprove an allegation of assault.

The case highlights how disputes involving relationships, finances and parenthood can become complicated when several issues are raised at once.

5. His Compensation Demand Raises Questions About Legal Responsibility

Aikins wants Vivian to repay the GH¢450,000 he says he spent on the wedding and the child’s upbringing.

Whether he can legally recover those expenses is a separate question from whether the reported DNA result excludes him as the biological father.

Any legal assessment could depend on the evidence, the circumstances of the marriage, the nature of the claimed expenses and the applicable Ghanaian law.

The reports available do not establish that Vivian is legally required to pay the amount, nor do they confirm that a court has ordered compensation.

A previous case reported by MyJoyOnline in February 2024 involved another Ghanaian man who sought compensation after a DNA test reportedly showed he was not the biological father of a girl he had raised for years. That case illustrates that similar disputes have reached public attention, but it does not determine the outcome of Aikins’s claim.

What Happens Next?

For now, Aikins is publicly demanding GH¢450,000 from Vivian, arguing that he made major financial commitments based on his belief that the child was biologically his.

The available accounts do not establish whether the couple remain together, whether Vivian has responded to the demand or whether the matter will proceed to court.

The case has reignited discussion about paternity testing, trust in relationships and the financial consequences of disputed parenthood.

Until further details emerge, the compensation demand remains Aikins’s claim, and the legal outcome remains unclear.
