FG Declares August 25 Public Holiday

The declaration means workers and citizens across Nigeria will observe Tuesday, August 25, as a public holiday in recognition of Eid ul Mawlid.

The annual occasion is observed by Muslims to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Ministry of Interior called on Nigerians to use the celebration as an opportunity to reflect on values associated with the Prophet’s life, including compassion, humility and service to humanity.

The holiday also provides an opportunity for Muslim families and communities to gather in prayer and mark the occasion peacefully.

Minister Sends Eid ul Mawlid Message

In his message, Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and Nigerians in the diaspora.

He encouraged citizens to reflect on the lessons associated with Eid ul Mawlid and apply them to everyday life.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.

He added that these qualities were particularly important for Nigeria at this time.

Call for Unity and Mutual Respect

The Minister of Interior further urged Nigerians to celebrate the occasion with restraint and mutual respect.
