First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Muslims across the country to use the occasion of Eid-El-Maulud 2026 to reflect on the life and virtues of Prophet Mohammed and promote peace, compassion and unity in their communities.

The First Lady gave the advice in a goodwill message to Muslim faithful as Nigeria joins Muslims around the world in commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

Eid-El-Maulud, which marks the birth anniversary of the Prophet, is an important occasion for Muslims to reflect on his teachings, character and commitment to compassion, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence.

Remi Tinubu urges Muslims to promote peace

The First Lady emphasized the importance of compassion, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence at a time when unity and understanding remain important to the country’s development.

She urged Muslims to emulate these virtues and promote peace not only during the Eid-El-Maulud celebration but also in their homes, communities and the wider Nigerian society.

“As we commemorate Eid-el-Maulud 2026, I extend my warm greetings to Muslim faithful across Nigeria,” she said.

According to Tinubu, the celebration provides an opportunity for Nigerians to remember the exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad and the enduring lessons associated with his character.

She particularly highlighted compassion, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence as values that can help strengthen relationships and encourage greater understanding among Nigerians.

A call for unity and peaceful coexistence

Nigeria is a religiously diverse country, with Muslims and Christians making up the majority of the population alongside followers of other faiths.

Against this background, messages calling for peaceful coexistence often form an important part of national celebrations.

Tinubu encouraged Muslim faithful to use the occasion to strengthen relationships within their families and communities while contributing positively to national unity.

She also called for Nigerians to promote values that can help reduce divisions and encourage peaceful interactions among people of different backgrounds.

Her message comes as Nigerians mark Eid-El-Maulud at a time when issues surrounding peace, security and national cohesion remain important topics across the country.

Reflecting on Prophet Mohammed’s virtues

Eid-El-Maulud provides Muslims with an opportunity to reflect on the teachings and character of Prophet Muhammad.

For many Muslims, the occasion is marked through prayers, religious lectures, gatherings and discussions focusing on the Prophet’s life and teachings.

The celebration also encourages believers to examine how values such as kindness, patience, forgiveness and concern for others can be applied in everyday life.

Tinubu said these virtues should not remain limited to religious gatherings but should influence how people treat one another.

She encouraged Muslim faithful to demonstrate compassion in their communities and contribute to an atmosphere of peace and mutual respect.

Hope and blessings for Nigerians

The First Lady also expressed hope that Eid-El-Maulud would bring renewed hope, peace and blessings to Nigerians.

She prayed that the celebration would strengthen the bonds of unity among citizens and encourage Nigerians to work together for a better country.

“May this celebration strengthen the bonds of unity among us and bring renewed hope, peace, and blessings to all Nigerians,” Tinubu said.

She concluded her message by wishing Muslim faithful a happy Eid-El-Maulud celebration.

Eid-El-Maulud 2026 marked nationwide

The celebration is taking place across Nigeria on August 25, with Muslim communities expected to participate in various religious activities.

Earlier, the Federal Government declared Tuesday, August 25, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-El-Maulud.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on values such as compassion, humility and service to others.

The government also encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and promote peace and mutual respect.

The public holiday allows Muslim faithful across the country to observe the occasion with their families and communities.

Message extends beyond the celebration

While Eid-El-Maulud is a religious celebration, Tinubu’s message also carries a broader appeal for national unity.

Her call for compassion, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence comes as Nigeria continues to seek greater cooperation among its diverse communities.

The First Lady’s message encourages citizens to look beyond religious differences and focus on shared values that can contribute to a peaceful society.

For Muslim faithful, the celebration offers an opportunity to reflect on the example of Prophet Muhammad and consider how his teachings can influence their personal lives and relationships with others.

As Nigerians mark Eid-El-Maulud 2026, the message from the First Lady is ultimately a call for peace, unity and hope.

She urged Muslims to celebrate the occasion by embracing the virtues associated with Prophet Mohammed and using those values to make a positive difference in their families, communities and the nation.
