Gunmen have seized Tony Aziegbemi, the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reports indicate that Aziegbemi was abducted shortly after meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, in Benin City on Friday, March 15.
Although state police authorities have not commented on the incident, the Edo State Government confirmed the kidnapping on Saturday, March 16.
In a statement, Chris Nehikhare, the state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, stated that the government is vigorously working to secure the release of the PDP chairman.
Nehikhare emphasized the government’s collaboration with security agencies, describing the abduction as regrettable. He assured the public of intensified surveillance and enhanced security measures statewide to suppress criminal activities and ensure the apprehension of perpetrators.
The commissioner urged residents to carry on with their lawful activities without fear and encouraged them to report any suspicious individuals or activities.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing that no effort will be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
