Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he does not want any of his children to pursue a career in the music industry despite being one of Africa’s biggest entertainers.
The award-winning Afrobeats star made the revelation during a recent appearance on The Vibe Podcast, where he reflected on the pressures, sacrifices and emotional toll that come with life as a global music star.
Although Davido admitted that one of his daughters already shows strong musical talent, he said his personal experiences in the entertainment industry have made him hesitant to encourage any of his children to follow the same path.
Speaking candidly during the interview, the father of six explained that while music has brought him global fame, financial success and countless achievements, it has also come with enormous challenges that many people do not see.
According to Davido, the demanding nature of the entertainment industry is one of the reasons he hopes his children will choose different career paths.
“I don’t want any of my children to pursue music,” Davido said during the interview.
The singer disclosed that his second daughter, Hailey Veronica Adeleke, already appears to have inherited many of his personality traits, including a passion for music and entertaining people.
He described Hailey as energetic, charismatic and naturally gifted.
“My second daughter, Hailey, is already leaning towards music,” he explained.
“She is the life of the party. She behaves just like me. She actually has a good voice.”
Despite recognizing her talent, Davido admitted that he remains reluctant to encourage her musical ambitions because he fully understands the realities of the industry.
The singer explained that fans often see only the glamorous side of being a successful artist, while the struggles behind the scenes remain largely hidden from public view.
According to him, maintaining a successful music career requires constant sacrifices, emotional resilience and an ability to handle intense public scrutiny.
“But I know what I went through,” he said.
“Can you go through what I go through? Knowing what I have been through, I’m skeptical about encouraging any of my children to do music.”
Davido’s comments have generated widespread reactions on social media, with many fans saying they understand his concerns despite his extraordinary success.
Over the years, Davido has experienced both remarkable highs and deeply painful personal moments.
His career has included sold-out international tours, numerous awards, chart-topping songs and collaborations with some of the world’s biggest artists.
However, it has also brought relentless public attention, online criticism, personal controversies and unimaginable family tragedies.
Many fans believe those experiences have shaped his perspective on raising his children.
Despite his reservations, Davido stressed that he would never prevent any of his children from pursuing their dreams if they genuinely wished to do so.
The singer acknowledged that his own parents eventually supported his decision to become a musician, even though they initially had concerns.
Coming from the influential Adeleke family, Davido had access to opportunities outside entertainment, yet he remained determined to build his own legacy in music.
His father, billionaire businessman Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, reportedly preferred a more traditional career path for his son before eventually supporting his passion.
Reflecting on that experience, Davido said he would extend the same freedom to his own children.
“But because my parents and my family eventually allowed me chase my dreams, I would never want to block any of my children from chasing their dreams,” he said.
“And if they are good, why not?”
His remarks highlight the balance many parents try to maintain between protecting their children from hardship and allowing them the freedom to pursue their passions.
Davido’s openness has resonated with many parents who believe that success often comes with hidden sacrifices that outsiders rarely appreciate.
The interview also provided fans with a rare glimpse into Davido’s life as a father.
Although he is known worldwide for his music career, the singer has repeatedly spoken about how important family is to him.
In recent years, he has become increasingly vocal about fatherhood and the lessons he hopes to pass on to his children.
Fans praised the singer for being honest about the realities of fame instead of presenting the entertainment industry as an easy path to success.
Others noted that his willingness to support his children’s dreams, even if they choose music, reflects the same encouragement he eventually received from his own family.
Davido remains one of Africa’s most successful music exports, with numerous hit records, sold-out concerts and international recognition.
His influence has helped expand the global reach of Afrobeats while inspiring a new generation of African musicians.
However, his latest comments suggest that behind the success lies a father who simply wants the best for his children, regardless of the careers they eventually choose.
For now, while Hailey’s musical talent may continue to grow, Davido appears content to let his children make their own decisions when the time comes, even if he hopes they ultimately choose a different path.
