In a recent plea, a concerned citizen has urged the Information Minister to proactively highlight the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
This call comes after the minister attributed online misinformation and public intimidation to supporters of Peter Obi, known as the “Obidients.” Obi, a prominent politician and presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has a significant and vocal online following.
The man’s appeal underscores the persistent political tensions and the crucial battle for public perception in Nigeria.
He emphasizes the need for the government to effectively communicate and publicize its accomplishments to counteract the perceived negative influence of the “Obidients.” These supporters are known for their active presence on social media, where they frequently criticize the government and promote their political agenda.
Blaming the “Obidients” for spreading misinformation and fostering a hostile online environment points to the intense political divide and the significant role social media plays in shaping public opinion.
The accusation suggests that the activities of Obi’s supporters are seen as a considerable challenge to the government’s efforts to maintain a positive image and engage with the public.
This situation highlights the broader struggle between government officials and political movements to control the narrative and influence the electorate.
The Information Minister’s response to this call for action will likely impact the ongoing discourse around President Tinubu’s administration and its perceived successes and challenges.
