Tragedy struck as three students from Abia State University Uturu, studying Medicine and Surgery, lost their lives in a car accident on the Okigwe section of the Enugu-Umuahia Expressway.
The unfortunate incident occurred as they were returning to Aba from their school’s induction ceremony for medical students on March 21, 2024.
Reports indicate that three students died in the crash, while two others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention, with one fortunate survivor. According to sources, the accident occurred when the driver of their vehicle lost control, causing it to somersault.
Corps Commander Fredrick Ogiden of the Abia State FRSC confirmed the incident, stating that their team responded promptly to the scene. The vehicle involved was identified as an ash-colored private Toyota Camry, and the accident occurred on the Okigwe stretch of the Enugu-Umuahia Expressway.
A viral video captured the presence of FRSC personnel at the accident site. One of the students tragically lost in the accident has been identified as Favour Okpanku, a 500-level student in the Medical and Surgery program.
