Contrary to circulating reports, the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has clarified that Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has not been transferred from the Ikoyi custodial center to Kirikiri Prison in Lagos State.
Despite speculations suggesting a discreet relocation last weekend, an NCoS official affirmed to Punch on Thursday, April 18, that Bobrisky is still detained at the Ikoyi facility.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to protocol, emphasized that Bobrisky’s conviction for Naira abuse did not constitute a capital offense warranting transfer to a maximum-security prison like Kirikiri.
Typically, maximum-security facilities accommodate inmates serving life or death sentences. As Bobrisky’s offense did not fall under such categories, the decision to keep him at Ikoyi was deemed appropriate.
Additionally, another official disclosed ongoing proposals for the movement of some inmates among custodial centers in the state, primarily aimed at alleviating congestion.
