Prosecutors Seek 2 And A Half Year Jail Time for Former Spanish FA Chief in ‘Kissgate’ Scandal

Prosecutors are calling for the former Spanish FA chief, Luis Rubiales, who infamously kissed Women’s World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso without her consent, to be sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail.

Also, they are demanding that Rubiales pay £85,000 in compensation to Hermoso if found guilty of sexual assault and attempting to cover up the scandal known as “Kissgate.”

These demands were outlined in a six-page indictment released yesterday, shedding light on the ongoing fallout from Rubiales’s actions at the World Cup Final in Australia last year.

Prosecutors argue that Rubiales’s behavior, broadcast worldwide on TV, constitutes sexual assault and coercion, warranting significant prison terms.

Madrid-based judge Francisco de Jorge, who initiated the criminal proceedings against Rubiales, stated that his investigation uncovered compelling evidence suggesting the kiss was not consensual and constituted a surprise initiative by Rubiales.

De Jorge noted that Hermoso appeared bewildered and caught off guard by the unwanted advance, indicating a lack of consent.

Rubiales, who forcibly kissed Hermoso during the awards ceremony in front of millions of viewers, is also accused of attempting to coerce Hermoso into defending him publicly.

The judge emphasized that Rubiales, along with others involved, exerted pressure on Hermoso to manipulate her into falsely claiming the kiss was consensual.

In his ruling, Judge de Jorge highlighted the intense stress and anxiety Hermoso experienced due to the coercion tactics employed by Rubiales and his associates.

He concluded that Rubiales’s conduct amounted to sexual assault and coercion, necessitating legal action against him and others implicated in the scandal.
