Nigerian content creator Caramel Plug has publicly accused Nollywood actress Anita Joseph of using one of her photos without permission and digitally replacing the original face with her own.

The allegation has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users debating the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in image editing and the importance of obtaining permission before using someone else’s content.

Caramel Plug Raises Alarm

The controversy began after Caramel Plug noticed that one of her fashion photos had appeared on Anita Joseph’s social media page.

According to the content creator, the original image showed her posing in a stylish cream suit, paired with a coffee-brown tie, matching jacket and yellow shoes.

She claimed that while the outfit, pose and background remained exactly the same, the face in the image had been digitally altered to resemble Anita Joseph.

Caramel Plug alleged that the actress used the edited version of the image on her page without giving credit or seeking permission.

Claims Her Comments Were Deleted

Caramel Plug further alleged that she initially tried to address the issue privately by commenting under the post.

However, she claimed her comments were repeatedly removed, preventing her from expressing her concerns directly on the actress’s page.

Frustrated by the situation, she took to her own social media platforms to publicly call out the actress, sharing screenshots and explaining why she believed the image had been manipulated.

Her posts quickly attracted widespread attention, with many social media users weighing in on the controversy.

Social Media Reacts

The incident generated mixed reactions online.

Some users supported Caramel Plug, arguing that using another person’s photograph without consent—even with AI editing—is unacceptable and infringes on the creator’s rights.

Others believed the issue may have resulted from an editing mistake rather than deliberate image theft, especially given the increasing use of AI-generated content.

The debate also reignited discussions about ethical concerns surrounding artificial intelligence and digital image manipulation.

Anita Joseph Responds

Following the backlash, Anita Joseph removed the controversial image from her social media account.

The Nollywood actress later issued a public apology, explaining that the edited image was the result of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) generation error rather than an intentional attempt to steal someone else’s content.

She expressed regret over the incident and acknowledged the concerns raised by Caramel Plug and members of the public.

Although the actress did not provide extensive details about how the image was created, her apology appeared to calm some of the criticism directed at her.

Growing Concerns Over AI-Generated Images

The controversy has highlighted the challenges that come with the increasing popularity of AI-powered editing tools.

As artificial intelligence becomes more accessible, concerns continue to grow over image ownership, consent, misinformation and copyright issues.

Many creators have urged users to verify AI-generated content before publishing it online to avoid situations similar to this one.

Legal experts have also warned that using another person’s likeness or copyrighted material without permission could expose users to potential legal consequences, depending on the circumstances.

Fans Continue to Discuss the Incident

Despite Anita Joseph’s apology and the removal of the photo, conversations about the incident continue across social media platforms.

While some fans have accepted the actress’s explanation, others believe content creators deserve greater protection against the unauthorised use of their work.

The episode serves as another reminder of the need for responsible use of artificial intelligence and respect for original creative content in today’s digital landscape.
