The Akwa Ibom State Police Command apprehended Imaobong Sampson Francis for orchestrating her own abduction and extorting a N4 million ransom from her aunt residing overseas.
CP Waheed Ayilara, the state’s Commissioner of Police, revealed this development on Friday, March 15, 2024, in Uyo during the parade of suspects involved in various criminal activities.
Imaobong Sampson, a resident of Nung Oku Village in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, planned with her boyfriend and three accomplices to stage her kidnapping and demand money from her aunt.
CP Ayilara said, “On March 11, 2024, at 1000hrs, a report was received from one Enobong Sampson regarding the alleged abduction of her sister, Imaobong Sampson Francis Sampson, with the kidnappers demanding N4 million as ransom.”
Subsequently, the Anti-kidnapping squad launched an intensive and intelligence-driven operation to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the victim’s release.
“On March 12, 2024, at about 2315hrs, the purported victim, Imaobong Sampson, and her boyfriend, Beltus Ebong, were apprehended in a hideout at Mbierebe Obio, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA,” CP Ayilara continued. “She admitted to colluding with her boyfriend, Beltus, and three others to fabricate her abduction to extort money from her aunt abroad.”
