The University of Ilorin, Kwara State, has made decisive moves, approving the expulsion and rustication of 19 students, among them six final-year students, for their involvement in various offenses.
According to a press statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs of the University, Kunle Akogun, and shared with journalists in Ilorin on Monday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), endorsed the recommendations of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee following its 220th/221st meeting.
The infractions leading to these disciplinary actions include misconduct, theft, examination malpractice, hostel bed-space racketeering, extortion, physical assault, admission racketeering, and assault.
Penalties meted out range from rustication for either one semester or one academic session to outright expulsion. The affected students span various academic levels, from 100 to 400 Levels, representing a broad spectrum of faculties and departments.
The list of disciplined students includes Adebayo Adeleke (Arts/ Performing Arts), Hassan Hanan Adebola (Arts/History and International Studies), Amatokwu Evans (Education/Art Education), Ayodele Samuel Koseunti (Arts/History and International Studies), Toki Opeyemi Ayomide (Arts/History and International Studies), Makinde Usman Ayomide (Arts/Linguistic and Nigerian Languages), Nwachukwu Chinedu Joshua (Life Sciences/Biochemistry), Onibiyo Eniola Gideon (Arts/History and International Studies), Oshinboluro Temitope Joshua (Physical Sciences/Mathematics), and Sulaimon Mayowa (Life Sciences/Biochemistry).
Additional students affected are Badmus Rasheedat Ajoke (Physical Sciences/Chemistry), Afolayan Damilola (Mathematics/Physical Sciences), Ajibola Oluwaseyi Temiloluwa (Water Resources & Environmental Engineering/Engineering & Technology), Akorede Isiaka Nifemi (Mathematics/Physical Sciences), Bolanta Taiye Zainab (Industrial Relations and Personnel Management/Engineering & Technology), Elegede Favour Emmanuel (Physiology/Basic Medical Science), Ojelabi Ibukunoluwa Micheal (Anatomy/Basic Medical Science), Okeke Ruth Chinecherem (Performing Arts/Arts), and Okanle Oluwatimileyin Samuel (Physiotherapy/Basic Clinical Science).
In a related development, Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN) assured that the recent 7-day nationwide warning strike declared by NASU/SSANU in public universities did not disrupt the ongoing semester examination process at the University of Ilorin.
Speaking during the Ramadan Iftar with working journalists in the state, Prof. Egbewole commended the unions and staff for their responsible conduct, ensuring that the strike did not impede the examination process.
He emphasized the institution’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment, achieving its ‘Smart Agenda,’ and positioning itself as a global player in academia.
