The 9 protesting activists and students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) who was arrested and imprisoned have been released by the Nigerian Police Force, Lagos State Command.
According to reports, the students activists arrested were held in a cell at the Lagos Police Command’s State Criminal and Investigation Department Yaba. News has it that they were arrested as a result of a protest against the increment in school fees by the school officials.
Currently, the Students Representative Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Osun State has placed an immediate demand for the release of the arrested students.
News also has it that the protest was a peaceful one but security officers teargassed the demonstration while the police took into custody one Philip Olatinwoa and two other peaceful protesters.
With immediate effect, the OAU Student Council and the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore has demanded without any condition the release of the arrested fellows. Following this demand, 9 of the students were released on Wednesday.
