In a devastating incident along the Zaria-Kano expressway, 12 lives were tragically lost, and 28 individuals sustained injuries in a road crash, as revealed by Kabir Nadabo, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kaduna State Sector Commander.
Nadabo informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kaduna that the fatal crash occurred at Tashar Yari village around 7:36 am, involving a trailer with registration number KTG 454 ZZ en route to Kano.
The Sector Commander attributed the primary causes of the accident to wrongful overtaking, speeding, and overloading, all contributing factors that intensified the severity of the casualties. He reported that the Chairman of Makarfi Local Government and the Unit Commander of Tashar Yari promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
Investigations into the crash revealed that a total of 40 individuals were involved, with 28 sustaining injuries and 12 losing their lives tragically. The injured victims were swiftly transported to Makarfi General Hospital for urgent medical attention. Nadabo also mentioned that the owner of the vehicle, residing in Azare, Bauchi State, was duly informed and instructed to report to the Kaduna Sector Command. The driver of the trailer was reportedly among the deceased.
Emphasizing the FRSC’s dedication to road safety, Nadabo underscored the importance of continuous engagement with stakeholders, particularly transport unions, to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding, overloading, reckless driving, and the use of cellphones while driving.
In his conclusion, Nadabo appealed to all motorists to prioritize safe driving practices, especially on highways, to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
