Renowned Nigerian activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has strongly criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its recent actions against businessman Cubana Chiefpriest regarding Naira abuse.

Charly Boy accused the anti-corruption agency of indulging in “frivolous distractions” instead of focusing on more pressing matters. He questioned the EFCC’s priorities, suggesting that pursuing individuals for Naira abuse, a minor offense in his view, is a misallocation of resources.

In an Instagram post, Charly Boy expressed his dismay, stating, “The EFCC’s recent focus on individuals spraying Naira at social events is a gross misdirection of attention and resources.” He argued that spraying Naira is a cultural practice that fosters camaraderie and social bonding, rather than posing a significant threat to the economy or public welfare.

Charly Boy went on to criticize the EFCC’s decision to charge Paschal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, with a three-count indictment related to Naira abuse.

He characterized this action as indicative of the EFCC’s lack of meaningful engagement with substantial issues affecting Nigeria.

According to Charly Boy, the EFCC’s fixation on trivial offenses serves only to divert attention from more substantial cases of corruption and malfeasance perpetrated by powerful individuals.

Expressing his frustration, Charly Boy condemned the EFCC’s priorities, asserting that the agency should be focusing its efforts on combating corruption at the highest levels of government rather than pursuing minor transgressions.

He concluded his statement with a rebuke directed at the EFCC, expressing contempt for their perceived neglect of their core mandate.
