The dissolution of the once-celebrated union between esteemed female politician Chief Mrs. Remi Adiukwu and her former partner, businessman and socialite Chief S.O Bakare, affectionately known as Oluwalogbon, has long intrigued many, sparking speculation about the true cause of their separation.
Recent revelations now shed light on the underlying reason behind their separation, tracing it back to a problematic business venture initiated by Oluwalogbon during his tenure as chairman of the now-defunct Metropolitan Bank.
The couple, who exchanged vows in December 2002 after a highly publicized courtship, witnessed their relationship falter approximately a decade ago, prompting whispers within social circles.
Despite maintaining silence on the matter, their parting became evident when Adiukwu reverted to her maiden name, signaling the conclusion of their marital alliance.
Investigations have revealed that Oluwalogbon, in 2001, registered two companies under the names of his then-wife, Chief Mrs. Remi Adiukwu, and his associate Mr. Omole.
These entities secured a substantial Commodity Import Finance loan, facilitated by the Metropolitan Bank, with Oluwalogbon’s influence likely prompting the utilization of his spouse’s name for the transaction.
The loan financed the importation of iron rods, which were stored in Oluwalogbon’s premises in Ikeja under the supervision of the Metropolitan Bank. Notably, Adiukwu and Omole played no active role in the business operations or financial management throughout the venture’s duration.
As the deal turned sour, complications arose with the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), casting a shadow over Adiukwu’s involvement in the companies.
Despite her minimal engagement and political commitments at the time, she found herself ensnared in the aftermath of a transaction she had little knowledge of.
Adiukwu’s repeated summons by the NDIC highlighted her discomfort as she faced potential repercussions due to her association with the companies. Her frustration intensified as Bakare failed to adequately address the situation, exacerbating strains within their relationship.
While Adiukwu remains legally unscathed, her discontent grows over Bakare’s perceived lack of action in resolving the issue, further contributing to the end of their marriage in 2013.
