The Lagos State Police Command has addressed a recent viral video showing two police officers allegedly demanding a bribe from a drone operator on the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
In the video, the officers can be seen questioning a cyclist about his drone usage and demanding a permit.
The cyclist expressed surprise at the requirement for a permit to fly a drone in Nigeria.
The officers stated that the operator should have obtained a permit from either the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) or the police before using the drone.
After delaying the cyclist for over an hour, the officers were captured on camera soliciting a bribe.
In a statement issued by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the state police command, it was clarified that the officers were acting within the confines of the law by requesting a permit.
However, the Lagos State Police Command strongly denounces the unprofessional behavior of the officers in attempting to extort the drone operator, as evidenced by the latter part of the video.
