Abdulsalam Idris, a 300-level medical student at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), tragically passed away after sustaining severe injuries from an assault allegedly carried out by a group led by a fellow student, identified as Fisal Dahiru Ibrahim.
According to reports from the Daily Trust, Abdulsalam succumbed to his injuries in the institution’s clinic on Thursday, April 4, 2024. UNIJOS’ security unit confirmed the incident and stated that the deceased’s body had been transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for autopsy.
Agama Solomon, the acting Chief Security Officer of UNIJOS, revealed that the suspect accused Abdulsalam of failing to deliver on a promise to bribe a technician with N30,000 for favorable exam grades.
Allegedly, in retaliation for this perceived betrayal, the suspect orchestrated an attack that resulted in Abdulsalam’s tragic death. The suspect has since been apprehended and handed over to the police for further investigation.
The incident occurred shortly after both the victim and the suspect completed their final examination in the 300-level.
Abdulsalam’s untimely demise has prompted shock and sadness among his peers, who believe that such violence was unwarranted and that he did not deserve such a fate.
