Bancroft’s School is grieving the loss of 14-year-old British-Nigerian student Daniel Anjorin, who tragically lost his life in a sword attack in London.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has sent shockwaves through the community. According to the United Kingdom Metropolitan Police, the teenager was fatally wounded during the attack while on his way to school in Hainault, located in the eastern part of London.
The assailant, armed with what appeared to be a Samurai-type sword, carried out the assault, resulting in the tragic death of young Daniel.
In response to the incident, the police have arrested a 36-year-old suspect on suspicion of murder. As of Wednesday, the suspect remained in custody, and his identity had not been disclosed.
Bancroft’s School, where Daniel was a student, expressed profound shock and sorrow at the loss of their pupil. In a statement on their website, the school described Daniel as a dedicated scholar with a positive demeanor and gentle character, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
The police provided details of the attack, stating that it began shortly before 7 am when the suspect crashed a van into a house fence, subsequently attacking a man before stabbing him in the neck.
The assailant then proceeded to assault a 35-year-old man inside a nearby property, causing lacerations to his arm, before turning his violence towards Daniel, resulting in his tragic death.
Despite the swift response of the authorities, including attempts to neutralize the suspect with incapacitant spray and a Taser gun, the assailant inflicted serious injuries on two police officers, both of whom required surgery and remained hospitalized.
The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, condemned the attack, expressing his condolences to the victims and their families and praising the bravery of the emergency services and police officers involved.
