Police operatives in Edo State have successfully rescued Reverend Canon Tony Mukoro from the clutches of suspected kidnappers in the state.
SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, confirmed the rescue to journalists on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in Benin City.
He disclosed that the operation resulted in the recovery of significant items, including one AK-47 rifle, one expended AK-47 shell, two pump-action guns, 14 live cartridges, one cap, and a bag from the suspects.
The victim, Rev. Canon Tony Mukoro, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen while traveling home in his Toyota Highlander car in Isihor community, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.
Upon receiving information about the incident, operatives from the Divisional Police Office in Ugbowo, Benin City, swiftly intervened. They intercepted the vehicle and engaged the hoodlums in a shootout. The exchange of fire prompted the kidnappers to flee, resulting in Mukoro’s safe rescue without any harm.
SP Nwabuzor assured the public that efforts were underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
