President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are set to begin paying tollgate fees for airport usage in Nigeria.
The decision follows the Federal Executive Council’s approval to eliminate exemptions for airport users from tollgate fees.
The approval came after a memorandum presented by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, highlighted the substantial revenue loss of over 82% due to exemptions for e-tag users.
Initially, the exemption was limited to the president and vice president, but President Tinubu directed their inclusion in the payment scheme.
Keyamo expressed regret that only low-income individuals had been charged for tollgate use, while wealthy Very Important Persons (VIPs) were exempted.
