In a somber moment that echoes through the corridors of Nigeria’s entertainment landscape, President Bola Tinubu expressed deep sadness at the passing of two iconic comic actors, John Okafor, affectionately known as Mr. Ibu, and Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, fondly remembered as Sisi Quadri.

President Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of these gifted Thespians who, through their comedic brilliance, brought joy and relief to millions of Nigerians.

Presidential candidates of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election, joined in mourning Ibu’s demise, describing it as a substantial loss not only to the entertainment industry but to the entire nation. In separate condolence messages shared on their platforms, they offered prayers for solace to the bereaved families and the nation as a whole.

Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, expressed her condolences, labeling the departure of the comic actor as a sad moment for everyone in the entertainment industry. In a statement from her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Nneka Anibeze, Musawa lamented the coincidence of Mr. Ibu’s passing just 24 hours after the demise of another Nollywood actor, Sisi Quadri.

Musawa shared, “I’m deeply shocked at too many deaths occurring at the same time. Mr. Ibu was a household name who brought happiness to families throughout his acting career. His death at this time is very unfortunate, and we will sorely miss him. May his soul rest in peace.”

Echoing the sentiments, Peter Obi tweeted, “Just as I conveyed my condolences on the loss of Nollywood actor Sisi Quadri, many brought to my attention the passing of the veteran John Okafor, known as Mr. Ibu. Their departure leaves a void in our creative and sports industries, and they will be dearly missed. Rest in peace, Mr. Ibu. Rest in peace, Bidemi Olaseni.”

In this moment of reflection, we bid farewell to the laughter and joy these remarkable individuals brought to our lives. May their souls find eternal peace, and may their contributions continue to resonate in the hearts of those they entertained.
