P-Square, comprising Peter and Paul Okoye, along with their brother Jude Okoye, have been instructed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria to pay a promoter, Mr. Patrick Arueze, the sum of N25 million over a breach of contract dispute.
The court’s ruling stemmed from a case filed against the musicians by Mr. Arueze, who alleged that they failed to fulfill their contractual obligations to perform at a show in Benin City in 2011.
Despite attempts by the Okoyes to reverse the judgment, their motions were dismissed by the courts.
Initially, the Okoyes attempted to halt the payment through various legal maneuvers, including filing a motion of stay of execution at the Court of Appeal, Benin Division, which was unsuccessful.
Subsequently, they issued a cheque to settle the amount owed, but later sought to prevent its payment through further legal actions.
Their efforts culminated in a motion filed at the Supreme Court seeking to appeal against the ruling of the Court of Appeal.
However, the Supreme Court upheld the decision, striking out the Okoyes’ application and awarding one million naira as costs for the application.
