The management of National Medical Services Laboratories (NMS Labs) in Pennsylvania, USA, has refuted claims that they performed a toxicology test on the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
According to information from The Punch, the laboratory did not conduct any toxicology tests to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death.
This statement was issued following an inquiry by The Punch to NMS Labs regarding the examination. During the Coroner’s Court proceedings on May 15, a pathologist revealed that the decomposition of Mohbad’s body hindered the determination of his cause of death through an autopsy.
When the Coroner’s Court reconvened in Ikorodu district in November 2023, state attorney O. Akinde informed the court that the toxicology test, a crucial part of the autopsy process, was not available.
The state DNA and Forensic Centre is currently handling the case, assisted by three affiliate centers.
“So, if there is an emergency like this one that we have, they will not say they cannot handle it. So, there are three of them in the US and the one handling this particular one is the NMS in Pennsylvania, USA,” Omotoso said during a live program.
The Punch reported that an email was sent to NMS Labs to inquire about whether a toxicology test had been conducted to determine Mohbad’s cause of death.
In response to the correspondence dated May 17, Esther Dede, a Client Services Associate in the Forensics Division of NMS Labs, denied that Mohbad’s toxicology test was carried out at any of their facilities.
She stated, “Unfortunately, we do not have a case for that patient. To maintain our compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations, we would need authorization from the submitting agency.”
