Barrister Ayo Olumofin, the legal representative of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has disclosed that the renowned crossdresser admitted to the charges of abusing the Naira currency when they were presented to him.
Following Bobrisky’s guilty plea to a four-count charge of Naira abuse filed against him by the EFCC, Justice Abimbola Awogboro postponed the sentencing to Tuesday, April 9, 2024. The judge ordered that the defendant be kept in EFCC custody pending the final judgment.
The social media personality was brought before Justice Abimbola Awogboro at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos on Friday, April 5, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning the mutilation of Naira notes.
Addressing the media after the court adjournment, Bobrisky’s legal counsel, Ayo Olumofin, clarified, “There is no request for dismissal. She pleaded guilty. The court has the authority. Therefore, we have no choice but to accept the adjournment. However, we brought to the court’s attention that Idris is a first-time offender and under the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act, the court is unlikely to impose the maximum penalty on her.”
Olumofin continued, “What are the penalties? Six months imprisonment or a fine of N50,000. The EFCC has taken into account the fine and has even agreed to the defendant’s commitment to cease the abuse of Naira. We are not disappointed. The court has the final say.”
