The National Agency for Food and Drug Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action by closing down ten bakeries and eight table water factories in Rivers State due to their involvement in producing counterfeit and unwholesome products.
In a statement released today, March 27, the agency revealed that some of these facilities were operating under unsanitary conditions and using well-known brand names without proper authorization.
The crackdown came after thorough investigations, surveillance efforts, and numerous consumer complaints regarding the substandard products circulating in the area. According to NAFDAC, many of the bakeries were not properly registered with the agency, while others were found to have expired licenses or had relocated without informing the authorities.
Also, certain water factories were discovered to be operating without essential filtration equipment and failing to adhere to standard production protocols.
NAFDAC has emphasized the importance of prompt license renewal for non-compliant producers and issued stern warnings to those who violate regulations.
The agency reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding consumer safety and upholding product quality standards, underscoring the severity of consequences for those found flouting the rules.
