Dr. Richard Somiari, head of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Center, stated that the findings from the autopsy performed on the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, would be available within the next three to four weeks.
Somiari revealed this during his testimony at a coroner’s inquiry into the singer’s death on Wednesday, March 20. The witness was questioned by the defense attorney during the inquiry. It’s worth noting that the musician passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, sparking controversy that led the Lagos State Government to launch a coroner’s inquiry into his death.
The inquiry commenced on October 13, 2023. During the latest hearing on March 20, Somiari informed Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, the Coroner, saying,
“We anticipate receiving the initial autopsy findings within three to four weeks and subsequently confirming them to verify the cause of death.” He further explained, “We explored various possibilities to investigate whether poisoning was a factor in Mohbad’s death, as no specific cause was mentioned.”
The forensic specialist reassured the public about the security and monitoring of the autopsy samples, stating, “We have established protocols for the safekeeping and security of results. There are procedures in place to oversee the transportation of samples abroad.”
