Famous Nigerian blogger, Linda Ikeji, has addressed rumors surrounding her son Jayce’s surname.
Speculation arose when netizens noticed that Jayce was referred to as Jayce Ikeji in a social media post, leading to assumptions that Linda had changed his surname from his father’s to hers.
In a heartfelt post on her Instagram page, Linda clarified that she never changed her son’s surname, asserting that Jayce has always carried the Ikeji name since birth. She emphasized that any future decision regarding a name change would be up to Jayce when he grows older.
Linda shared, “Just to be clear. I’ve NEVER ever had to change my son’s surname. He’s been an Ikeji right from when he was born! Where do I have the time or patience to be changing name? Changing or keeping his surname (Ikeji) will be up to him when of age. Food for my junior colleagues.”
Linda’s response came after a post where she mentioned a trip to Disney/Marvel Paris with her son Jayce Ikeji and his cousin Ryan Kanu. She wrote about the boys’ close bond and their experiences growing up together as brothers, which inadvertently sparked the rumors.
“Jayce Ikeji and Ryan Kanu take Disney/Marvel Paris. Cousins, best friends, and literally growing up together as brothers. Their love for each other is incredible, and when they can help it, are inseparable! Ryan is literally the best little human ever! They’ve been on a few vacations together in the past, but this is the first one they will remember as they are nearly 6 and 7 now,” Linda shared.
Linda’s clarification not only addresses the rumors but also explains the autonomy she wishes to grant her son regarding his identity. She acknowledges that while she has given him her surname, it will ultimately be his choice to decide if he wants to keep it or change it in the future.
Her statement reflects a modern approach to parenting, where the emphasis is on the child’s personal choice and identity. It also highlights her commitment to transparency and addressing public curiosity head-on, a trait that has defined her career as a prominent blogger.
The public has reacted positively to Linda’s statement, appreciating her honesty and the clarity she provided. Many have expressed support for her decision to let her son choose his surname when he is older, seeing it as a respectful and forward-thinking approach.
