The Lagos State Government has issued a notice to Landmark Beach Resort, giving them seven days to evacuate the premises.
This action comes after Paul Onwuanibe, the CEO of the resort, appealed to the LASG to consider rerouting a section of the 700km coastal highway currently under construction.
Onwuanibe emphasized that redirecting just 1.5km of the highway would prevent the destruction of the $200 million landmark resort.
The Landmark ecosystem is a bustling hub with over 80 businesses operating within its premises. It has become a popular destination, attracting approximately 3 million visitors annually, including tourists and members of the diaspora.
The resort is a significant contributor to the local economy, directly employing 4000 Nigerians and providing indirect employment opportunities for 12,000 more.
Onwuanibe explained that he acquired the land in 2007, long before plans for the coastal highway were conceived.
Despite his efforts to engage with the authorities, he has now been given a strict ultimatum to vacate the premises within seven days, putting the future of the multi-billion dollar beach resort in jeopardy.
