Saturday night brought tragedy to Mairuwa village in the Faskari local government area of Katsina State, as bandits carried out a brutal attack on worshippers observing Ramadan prayers.
Reports indicate that numerous worshippers were targeted in the assault, resulting in the loss of at least two lives and leaving another critically injured.
Among the victims was a prominent community figure known as Alhaji Lado, believed to be the primary target of the assailants.
Alhaji Lado, recognized as a successful businessman, politician, and large-scale farmer, reportedly resisted the bandits’ demands, leading to his fatal shooting. Witnesses to the attack recounted the terrifying events, including the abduction of Alhaji Lado’s wife and two daughters by the assailants.
Another casualty of the attack was Sani, a dedicated health worker at the Mairuwa Health Facility, whose life was tragically cut short during the violence.
This distressing incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by residents of Katsina State, which has been severely affected by banditry in recent years.
Despite concerted efforts to address criminal activities, the region continues to grapple with persistent violence and insecurity.
