n a statement made on Monday by the state governor, Sim Fubara, just after the House members assembled under the organization of the House Speaker Martin Amaewhule to impeach the governor, Sim said:
“Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment,” the governor said while addressing his supporters at the Assembly Complex.
He added, “Let me assure the people of Rivers that I will continue to ensure that you get the dividends of democracy. At the appropriate time I will address the press.”
The governor assured the citizens that there will be proper democracy. While the situation gets severe, gunshots were heard inside the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on Monday 30th October 2023 as some House members gathered to start the impeachment process of the governor.
Also, the Parliamentarians and the head of House also suspended some lawmakers who were deemed to be too close to the governor.
In other reports, the House of Assembly Complex caught fire on Sunday leading to a burnt down.
In a video, the firefighters unit were seen pouring water on the burning complex to quench the fire. At the scene of the incident, the governor was seen rushing to witness the accident which prompted his question of what he has done to offend the state House of Assembly members.
