One Nollywood actor, Charles Inojie has spoken up about how his parents’ divorce affected him as a child.
The actor explained that his mother abandoned him when he was barely eight months old. He narrated that he was left at the care of his grandmother who had to breastfeed him since he was still too tender to start solid feeding.
In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, the actor pointed out that his father remarried a second wife who made his father choose between him and his newly married wife. He said his father chose his new wife who was satisfying his sexual urges against his son.
The actor said: When I wanted to go to the University, I became back to the house to tell him I have gotten admission. The woman began to laugh, faced my Dad and told him ‘If this one has to go the University, he will wait for my own child to grow so they will go together’, that is a child I an older than with 18 to 20 years”
I met him and we sat for close to thirty minutes, nobody talked. I was crying, he was crying. I said ‘I have to start going but that I am now out of school. My first work, they said Papa must pray for his child’. I bought a drink and put N5000 in an envelop and asked that he prays for me and he said he wasn’t going to touch it and that his conscience will not let him having not contributed a dime.”
From his statement, his step mother practically stopped his father from training him in school, and catering for him. He mentioned that years later he saw his stepmother but he didn’t feel any emotional urge to attend to her as a son would to his mother.
It seemed like Charles Inojie’s life had been a rollercoaster but however, the actor pulled through and made the world his stage
